Project Overview

In partnership with: Holley Memorial Hospital

Background

The Holley Memorial Hospital was founded many years ago, originally as a leprosy treatment centre. Since then, the work has expanded. Currently a steering group, ‘Friends of Ochadamu’, meets regularly to pray, support and plan ways in which to help the hospital. Supplies such as a new generator, medical equipment, beds and mattresses have been given to the hospital itself, but the leprosy colonies have remained untouched. One of our goals for 2012 is to renovate the houses,
which are currently occupied by many families and former patients who have been cured of leprosy but are still partially disabled by the effects of the disease. This work will make their lives, which are already difficult from dealing with the scars and deformities left by leprosy, a little better. The poverty and conditions are bad – but hopefully they will improve soon!

The Project

Involves the renovation of ten houses in the former leprosy colony including fixing new ceilings, painting, some electrical work and general repairs in and around the hospital.
