Project Overview
In partnership with: First Baptist Church, Belgrade
Background
The First Baptist Church in Belgrade has existed for more than 100 years. In its long history it has experienced vitality and growth - and opposition and threats from different governments, the Orthodox Church and radical nationalistic groups. The church established and still runs one of the most vital Christian relief agencies in the country (Bread of Life) and a kindergarten, as well as being the mother church for several daughter churches in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. Presently, the church has a very active membership of 130 people, with small but steady growth. There is great
potential for development in different areas of evangelism and ministry outreach such as children’s work, youth work, literature ministry and humanitarian work to community groups such as gypsies, the elderly and refugees. The church tried for 15 years to get a building permit to renovate their building before it was finally granted! Work started in 2010 and in 2011 LIFT sent a team to assist the project and we have been asked back.
