Uganda WAAKISA (construction)
Written by Michael Kane
Project Overview
In partnership with: WAAKISA (Mercy)
Background
WAAKISA (Mercy) is a locally based Christian charity working with young girls in Uganda. Partnering with local Ugandans, WAAKISA have a sex education programme ‘Loving God’s Way’ which promotes abstinence. The government has invited them to take the programme into many schools. Unfortunately some girls slip through the net, end up pregnant and are turned out of the family home. WAAKISA is building a pregnancy care centre which will be home for these girls during their
pregnancy. This ensures that they are in good health and well nourished when they give birth at the local hospital. Following the birth the girls return to the centre to learn practical parenting and life skills. LIFT has sent a team to this centre for the last six years.
