Uganda (WAAKISA)
Written by Michael Kane
Project Overview
In partnership with: WAAKISA
Background
WAAKISA (mercy) is a local based Christian charity that is working in Uganda with young girls. Partnering with local Ugandans, WAAKISA have a sexual education program, “Loving God’s Way” which promotes abstinence and they have be invited by the government into many schools with this program.
Unfortunately some girls slip through the net and end up pregnant and many families will then put the girls out of the family home. WAAKISA is building a pregnancy care centre to care for these girls. It will give them a home leading up to the birth, ensuring that they are in good health and well nourished at the time of the birth. After the birth at a local hospital they return to the centre to learn practical parenting and life skills.
