Post Project Review

In October 2004 an 8 man team travelled to Oussouye, Southern Senegal to put a roof on the local church.  The initial request came from the Worldwide Evangelism for Christ (WEC).  Iain and Linda Williamson of WEC were the organisers of the project and were with the team in Oussouye.

This project was unique to Northern Ireland in that the roof was built in the Portadown area.  It was made in sections, as it had to be packed into a container.  The container was shipped to Senegal by another local mission organisation Helping Others Worldwide (HOW).  The container left Northern Ireland approximately 8 weeks before we were due to arrive in Oussouye.

Before leaving for Senegal the team was told that a crane would be available but it turned out to be unsuitable, as it could not reach over the walls of the church to lift the steel work up.  The crane was ruled out and the only means of erecting the steel work was to use people power.

There were approximately 20 helpers and as they lifted the first section it was very heavy they were not sure if they were going to be able to get it erected but they were there to Labour in Faith and Trust and that is what they did and were able, with God's help, to get it into place.  After this the team knew that they could complete the project.  The other stanchions and trusses were put in place by day two.

The second week the work progressed well and as they finished work on the final day some of the ladies from the church arrived and all gathered inside the church.  They prayed and gave thanks to God for the whole project.  The first hymn they sang in the Church was "To God be the Glory, great things he has done".
