Post Project Review
IKE (Ifjúsági Keresztyén Egyesület) or Christian Youth Organisation was first founded in Transylvania in 1902. In Feburary1921 some students started the IKE work in Cluj. During the communist regime every IKE activity was stopped. After the fall of communism in 1990 the IKE work in Cluj was restarted. At the moment they are working closely alongside the Hungarian Reformed Church in Transylvania. They have 60 registered IKE groups and are working with 5000 young people. The Hungarian Reformed Church last year gave IKE, officially the Camp in Geoagiu. IKE will organise Christian camps and programs of a great variety starting from leadership training to recreational camps. It will also be open for Christian groups and churches to book it for programs.
Knowing the great demand for the for this camp Csaba Veres Missions Co-ordinator for IKE asked LIFT to help in much need renovating of these buildings. Csaba and Ilona Veres serve in the city of Cluj with the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
This project was split up into three different areas of work. Electrical, install a new fuse box and a safety check. Joinery fitting out a reception area and the opening of a door way into the basement excavating down to the new door and from new steps into the basement this would give the young people a place to chill out.
Reports back tell us how much the kids love the basement the reception area is being well used and the whole building is much safer because of the electrical work.
