Israel

“You are going where?, are you mad?” These were the questions put to many of the team going to Israel a few weeks after September 11th.
Six men and three ladies were going to carry out much need repairs and painting to Stella Carmel, a conference prayer retreat centre on Mount Carmel. Due to the ongoing violence in the region and with reduced numbers visiting Stella Carmel, staffing levels had also been reduced and little maintenance carried out.
The team scraped away loose paint and washed any woodwork, then applied a bonding agent to the wall. After this had dried, two, three and even four coats of paint were applied to the outside of the building. Electrical, plumbing and carpentry work were also completed throughout the centre.
The times of fellowship were remarkable with Murray Dixon opening Gods word from a Jewish angle. We will always remember him explaining the wedding feast under a pomegranate grove in Cana. We also had a Shabbat meal with Messianic Jews and attended two Messianic congregations.
On the second Sunday we visited Jerusalem and attended services in the Garden Tomb and in Christ church. When we returned to our accommodation, the team received many phone calls; the USA had started to bomb Afghanistan. During the remainder of our time in Stella Carmel we saw and heard the Israeli air force patrolling the skies. Did we feel in danger? No, we felt God’s peace and we knew that we were all safe in His hands. Were we mad? No, our Lord is the great protector.
