Post Project Review
We all know where we were on that fateful day of September 11th 2001.
LIFT had seventeen men in Beirut working in the Home of Hope for street children. Over 450 children had passed through this home, some as young as two months and others in there late teens. The love shown by the staff is the only love many of the children have ever known.
Their task was to carry out an electrical inspection. This found live wires hanging from ceilings, dangerous electrical installations and faulty sockets. The plumbing was not much better with leaks and blocked sewers the main problems. It was also apparent that much of the building had not seen paint for many years. We were grateful to have had seventeen volunteers on the project; each one was needed if all the work was to be completed.
In the wake of September 11th, with great uncertainty in the Middle East and having travelled so far from their loved ones, what was the team to do?. After much prayer and support from home the team decided to stay and finish the Lord's work in Beirut.
The renovation work continued each day leading to a safer electrical system, restored and improved sanitation and the re-decoration of rooms, some with beautiful murals. The murals not only brightened up the building but the faces of the children also.
A much safer, more welcoming Home of Hope was left when the team headed home.
