Post Project Review
At the start of 2001 we had six men ready for a project in August in the Crimea region of Ukraine. Unfortunately the building they were to work in was taken back by the government. I am sure that God has another project for you was what each member was told. They learned patience and in June 2001 another project was found showing that God knew where He wanted this team to go.
Turkey, Istanbul is an area on the Asian side of Istanbul where many Kurdish refugees lived. The project was to fit out a church, located in the basement of a shop. This included dry lining, (a type of plastering), painting inside and outside, making and fitting a kitchen, tiling, plumbing and electrical work.
This was to be the first Christian church in this area and before the team went out there were street protests; it was in local newspapers and even made it on to the TV. Just what was this team to face?
The team finished all that was asked of them and the Church opened at the start of September 2001. The Lord also used them in reaching out to the local people. Six westerners created a lot of attention and many people visited them as they worked. The workers and the local pastor wasted no time and were able to give out the Jesus video and new testaments to these visitors. Before the project had finished local people joined the LIFT team in painting the outside of the Church.
Patience does pay off and the church is still preaching the good news of the gospel today.
