Project Overview
In partnership with: HMH (Holley Memorial Hospital)
Background
The Holley Memorial Hospital was founded many years ago, originally as a leprosy treatment centre. Since then the work has expanded. There is currently a steering group called ‘Friends of Ochadamu’ that meets regularly to pray, support and plan ways in which they can help the hospital.
Supplies such as a new generator, additional medical equipment, beds and mattresses etc. have been given to the hospital itself, but the leprosy colonies have remain untouched. It is one of their goals for 2011 to start work in this area and renovate the houses that are currently occupied by many families and former patients.
This work would simply make their lives, already difficult from dealing with the scars and
deformities left by leprosy, a little better. The poverty and conditions are bad – but hopefully
they will soon improve!
The Project
Involves the renovation of ten houses in a former leprosy colony that are now inhabited by
people cured of leprosy (but still partially disabled by the effects of the disease) and their
families. The work would include re-plastering walls, fixing new ceilings, painting, some
electrical work and general repairs.
