Uganda (WAAKISA)
Written by Michael Kane
Project Overview
In partnership with: WAAKISA
Background
WAAKISA (mercy) is a local based Christian charity that works in Uganda with young girls. Partnering with local Ugandans, WAAKISA has a sexual education programme called “Loving God’s Way” which promotes abstinence, and they have been invited by the government to take the programme into many schools.
Unfortunately some school girls still get pregnant and many families then put them out of the family home. WAAKISA is building a pregnancy care centre for these girls. It gives them a home leading up to the birth, ensuring that they are in good health and well nourished at the time of delivery.
After the birth at a local hospital they return to the centre to learn practical parenting and life skills. LIFT has sent a team to this centre for the last five years.
