About The Mission
The work of Hopitally Vaovao Mahaafaly ( or the Good News Hospital) in Mandritsara in the North of Madagascar is a rural mission hospital providing the sole surgical service for the population of 250,000 people. They carry out about 140 operations each year. Some patients live locally while others travel 200km or further to get treatment. It is by far the best hospital in the area and cares for an area about half the size of Wales. The hospital is also involved in many other health projects as well as Christian outreach to the community. The mission statement of the hospital, in partnership with the Bible Baptist Churches, is to glorify God by proclaiming the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ, teaching the Bible and caring for those in need as Jesus did.
Louise Little from Northern Ireland is an ICU nurse, working at the hospital and as well as using her nursing skills, she also works wih female prisoners, visiting them in jail and taking much needed supplies to them. She also works with prostitutes, helping them to search for alternative employment etc. Some of these girls are only children themselves and some have given their lives to Christ and been baptised.
